Chapter Nine

“He’s going to take forever,” Lawrence joked.

“Stop it. Chase does not control his kitchen like that. I won’t believe it.” Emily lay in the center of Chase’s bed. Her stomach growling in hunger. They’d moved to his room because he had the biggest bed. Instead of making love they’d put on a movie and lay together naked. She couldn’t believe how amazing it was being between two masculine men. Yes, for her whole life she had a crush on Lawrence. And her first time had been with Chase. Both men held a special part inside of her heart.

“You haven’t seen this guy in business. He refuses to have anything that isn’t organic. He grows herbs in the garden and he even has his own potato crop.”

Emily laughed. Seeing Chase in her mind's eye with all of the tattoos owning a vegetable patch.

“You make him sound like a little teddy bear.”

“I’m not joking. Seriously, I went shopping the other month and brought back a tin of tomato soup. Chase tasted it and threw it out. I’m now banned from food shopping. He cooks everything himself.” Emily loved hearing about the new man she’d missed.

“What do you think he’s cooking?” she asked.

The scents coming from the kitchen were delightful. “I’d go with bacon and eggs but this is Chase. He’s probably got a pasta boiling in salted water. That’s the other thing, he’s picky about the style of dried pasta I buy.”

Emily burst of laughing. “I’ve missed this.”

Lawrence paused. It had been years since they last sat back and talked. “I missed you too.” Silence descended. Emily glanced around the room and decided it matched Chase perfectly. “You know, I would have listened back then.”

“I know. I just didn’t want to talk about it,” she admitted. She turned her head and looked at him. “A lot happened back then. I mean, I walked in on my parents screwing. Not only was I disturbed by that disgusting image but then to see, Uncle Tyler. Chase was with me. He held me through it all. Don’t put your hand in a fist, Lawrence. You weren’t there and I needed someone. Chase was.” She took his hand and rested it over her stomach so he couldn’t start threatening anymore.

“So you think sex is disgusting?” he asked with a smile.

“Between parents, absolutely. Let’s face it, they should stop the moment they have kids,” Emily said with a light tone to her voice. “I guess at the time I hadn’t woken up yet.”

“Did you meet anyone on the road while you travelled?” Emily heard the hint of jealousy in his voice. A warm glow developed through her.

“I met people but none of them were, you or Chase.”

“I can’t believe you’ve been gone so long. Being with you it’s like you never left.” Lawrence grabbed her hand and raised it to his lips. “I’m pleased you decided to come back.”

Emily swallowed the lump in her throat. Lawrence always had the ability to unnerve her. “I wasn’t going too.
